ChatGPT - December 2022
Calling all geeks
So I heard last night that Stack Overflow was temporarily suspending ChatGPT responses and got curious...I am legitimately astounded. I started throwing requests at it - all the things I've needed to "recapture" at the new job or go digging through my old personal repo and...
It's giving me code faster than I can Google for it or search my repos. It is solid code, also. It is teaching me things at the same time. I'm honestly a little shook. This tool is effective and useful and within 30 minutes I'm sold on it. I will go here before I go to Google. Seriously.
I've asked it for powershell, and cmd, and kubectl, and openssl, and curl - these are all things that I know how to do but it's a pain in the ass to look up snippets or read docs to craft my own. It got ALL of these right and it knows more than I do about a bunch of them. It's like having a smart assistant that can instantly read documentation and pull out the "easy stuff" for me.
I bet it feels a little bit like how a mathematician felt when they got handed their first calculator. It's not that it will replace me, it's not that it allows me to stop knowing how to do things, but it's going to make parts of my job easier and make me better at my job.
Amazing.
