squishy ants, tiny space rockets, social media rotting teenage brains
Squishier ants are shaking out to be superior to strong ants. This is an interesting lens to think about civilizations too I think.
Smaller space rendezvous story. I love to see this type of thing. While “Old Space” was very government-oriented I feel like we’re finally reaching a point where the market can do its thing and this is exciting.
The terrifying ways social media is altering teenage brains. Incredibly long marketing ploy for a book but, also, pretty compelling on its own.
Ford kills their F-150 Lightning. Feels bad man. It was my favorite because it looked like a truck and could have functioned like one. Unlike some monstrosities that will remain nameless.
China to tax condoms to get more babies. I dunno, I feel like the folks that can’t do the math between raising a kid and paying extra for condoms aren’t the ones we want reproducing?
Retrospective on how inflation still sucks. Iglesias says this is boring but I thought this was a really interesting read because I do think this is the single biggest reason we ended up with Trump again.
An argument that editors kinda suck. I really enjoyed this and see where he’s coming from. I think it’s interesting that lots of these complaints are the same reasons I ignore chatGPTs “editing” too. I’ve never cared enough to ask someone to generally edit my stuff though.
Very crunchy write-up on Cloudflare’s IaC and policies. I enjoyed.
Nate Silver’s take on what might be going down with Las Vegas. Always learn things with his posts.
Nobody knows how large software works - especially the people who wrote it! I think Sean brings unique (and correct) viewpoints on lots of stuff in my industry.
Nate Silver’s list of 51 things important to America in the first quarter century. Solid read.
I agree with Sean Goedecke that software engineers should be somewhat cynical. I think it’s probably only pragmatic. Also, I think Sean is generally just nicer than me - go figure.
